We believe each item below has the potential to change communities and even the world beyond. If you're lucky, you just might influence your neighbors, a lover or a friend along the way!
- Turn off the water when you are brushing your teeth. Doing this one thing helps you save up to 25 gallons of water each month! That's 300 gallons a year!
- Unplug items you rarely use. To save energy, unplug the products that you rarely use, and use a power strip to turn off multiple energy users with just one little button.
- Turn off your computer at night. By turning off your computer instead of leaving it in sleep mode, you can save 40 watt-hours per day! $2.8 billion a year is spent on workplace computers being left on.
- Turn off the lights, especially when you leave a room. That's a no brainer, right?
- Buy 10 reusable grocery bags. Keep 5 in your car, 4 in your house and one in your purse to give away.
- Let the sun dry your clothes. This actually helps your clothing last longer and saves energy too.
- Plant a tree. Trees and plants help to absorb the carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere.
- Walk to the post office or work or to the park. This reduces emissions, improves your health and you might shed a pound or two.
- Don't pre-heat the oven. Some say unless you are making bread or pastries, don't pre-heat the oven. Just turn it on when you put the dish in.
- Use cloth napkins. So many beautiful colors will brighten up you dinner table.
- Rethink a plastic bottle of water, buy a reusable one instead. Nearly 90% of plastic water bottles are not recycled, instead taking thousands of years to decompose.
- Skip the coffee stirrer and forget about a straw. Did you know that each day we use 500 million straws - enough disposable straws to fill over 46,400 large school buses in a year?
- If it's brown flush it down, if it's yellow let it mellow. Most toilets use three gallons of water every time you flush.
